Gay Sitges • Essential Guide

First time in Sitges? Then our essential guide for gay travellers is for you.

Sitges “gay beach”

Sitges is a Mediterranean coastal town located 35 km west of Barcelona with some of the best beaches in Spain.

The beautiful town center is comprised of narrow streets filled with bars, restaurants and shops, that unlike many other Spanish coastal towns, has not been spoilt by over over development.

The town benefits from a climate that delivers, on average, over 300 days of sunshine a year with temperatures  ranging from 25c to 34c.

Gay Scene

Sitges has one of Europe’s longest established gay scenes dating back over 30 years. Recently, the town has benefited from a shift in summer gay partying gay from Ibiza to Barcelona. There is a good choice of gay bars and (relatively small) dance clubs that offer something for everyone.

During Summer (June to end of October), gay nightlife gets going from 10pm, with most of the bars remaining open until at least 3am and the dance clubs until sunrise. A number of regular gay events are held each year including Sitges Gay Pride (early July) and two annual International Gay Bear meetings.

The gay scene reaches its peak during the first two weeks in August when the beaches, bars and hotels are filled to capacity.

For an alternative night out, the bars, clubs and saunas in Barcelona can be reached quickly and easily by train (about 30 minutes).
