The “Old Centre” of Amsterdam, with Dam Square at its heart, dates from the 13th century. The district is full of shops, excellent hotels, canals, interesting buildings and “coffee shops” making it the most visited part of the city.
Of particular note are Warmoesstraat and Zeedijk streets. Warmoesstraat runs parallel to the Amstel river from the Centraal railway station to Dam Square and is the heart of Amsterdam’s world-famous gay cruise & leather fetish bar scene. Zeedijk has a growing number of gay venues but is better known as home of Amsterdam’s Chinatown.
