The historic Bairro Alto neighbourhood dates back to the 15th century. The mostly pedestrianized, streets are quiet during the day. But in the evening, restaurants and bars open, giving the area a Bohemian feel. Bairro Alto is also home to Lisbon’s gay bars and clubs.
Neigbouring Chiado is small district between Bairro Alto and Baixa (the city centre) and is full of upmarket shops and boutiques, cafes & theatres.

Tivoli Jardim is a bit of a Lisbon institution, enjoying an ideal location near Avenida metro station and the Principe Real gay scene. BAR CRU cruise club and TRUMPS nightclub are just 10-15 minutes away.

Next to Marquês de Pombal metro station, there are three excellent-value HF Fenix hotels: the HF Lisboa, HF Garden and HF Music. Our favourite is the HF Fenix Music which has a totally cool music-inspired styling.
Each soundproof, air-conditioned room has a Bluetooth sound system, mood lighting, electric blinds, flat screen cable TV, free WiFi, a desk and safe.
The hotel features a nice restaurant and bar, and a rooftop pool with city views from the terrace. The hotel serves an excellent breakfast buffet. Some of Lisbon’s best restaurants, shops and boutiques are within easy walk.
