Tenerife Gay Beaches

Tenerife’s beaches and year-round sunny weather make it a popular destination for gay sunbathers and naturalists.

Due to the volcanic nature of the Island, most of beaches are relatively small and the soft sand is dark colored. In fact, the sand on some beaches is almost black.

Most beaches are incredible clean (many have been certified as Blue Flag beaches) and have a good range of facilities, including sun beds, cafés and bars and toilets.

Playa de la Tejita is a relatively long sandy beach on the south coast, close to Tenerife South Airport. The “Blue Flag” beach is renowned as being popular with naturalists and the most gay-popular beach (with both tourists and local guys) on the Island (particularly the right hand side).

There are sun loungers and shades available for hire on sunny days and there is plenty of free car parking, but otherwise facilities are quite limited. Bring your own refreshments. The beach can be windy, so taking a windbreak is a good idea.

Gay popular beach in Tenerife

We took this photo early morning on a relatively cool, mid-week in early December. Factors that meant the beach was almost deserted. The beach is most popular from April through to September (although even in peak season, don’t expect to find as many gay sunbathers as in Maspalomas Beach in nearby Gran Canaria island.

If you’re staying in the Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos in South Tenerife, it’s worth taking a trip to Playa los Callados.

This stretch of sand and shingle beach is an openly nude beach. Frequented by many straight people, but it’s a haven for sexy muscle guys by day looking to get away from the other crowded nearby tourists beaches.

By night, needless to say, wandering along Playa los Callados has many opportunities for those looking for adventure. Watch your step on the shingle, though.

A lovely beach near the water park of Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz. The area has been on the gay map for several decades, and the Martiánez beach is known locally as the place to meet new friends where gay cruising takes place, day and night.

The beach has volcanic sand that slopes gently into the ocean. Take a walk along the beach and you’re sure to find somewhere private amongst the bushes, coves and mini dunes.

Playa del Pozo

audience rating 3.0 stars from 4 votes - click to vote

Playa del Pozo is a favourite amongst gay beach lovers in the Puerto de la Cruz area of north Tenerife. The beach may be a little out of the way but can be reached by taxi (get a price before setting off).

Pozo beach is made up of two volcanic sandy coves that stand at the foot of sheer cliffs, completely unspoilt and deserted. Dramatic scenery; the ultimate isolated beach and a hot spot for naked guys.

Take refreshments as there is only one kiosk on the beach. This gorgeous beach is for those who want to completely slip off the tourist radar.

Built by acclaimed artist/architect Cesar Manrique, Lago Martiánez is more than just an amusement park for children. With features like waterfalls, elegantly designed swimming pools and landscaped lakes, the place attracts many adults.

There is an ‘unofficial gay section’ where guys lounge on the sun beds in a private corner with landscaped gardens, away from other visitors. Upon entry, take a left.
