Westermarkt, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 1016
Homomonument is a permanent memorial to gay men and lesbians who have been subjected to persecution because of their homosexuality. It is the first monument in the world to commemorate gays and lesbians who were killed by the Nazis.
Opened in September, 1987, the monument comprises three large pink triangles made of granite, set into the ground to form a larger triangle, located on the bank of the Keizersgracht canal, near the historic Westerkerk church and Anne Frank House.
Gay & lesbian information and souvenir are available at the Pink Point kiosk (open daily, 10:30am- 6pm).
