Manager has to go

Been going to the Queen Shilling for years always enjoyed it until last night when I was horrified and disgusted by whom I was informed was the supposed Manager. We were standing in the bathroom while they were checking toilets to make sure only one person was in each cubicle annoying but understandable. A gentleman who is also a regular came in and politely asked us if he could use one of the cubicles and we said of course. After he had finished and let the cubicle a very angry a red faced little man stuck his head round the corner and started angrily berating the friendly man for being in the bathrooms with us. At this point I pointed out the gender neutral toilet that the manager insisted was just for trans people. I pointed out that trans people should be free to use whichever bathroom relates to their gender identity and gender neutral means that the bathroom can be used by any gender or gender identity. This angry little man then threatened me with being expelled from the club. I have never had such an awful experience at the Shilling in all the years I have lived in Bristol. I am totally disgusted and disappointed that this man has even been hired by this friendly award winning club.

The reality of the Queenshilling...

The reality of the Queenshilling is that it is a Pub/Bar with a dance floor located at the rear of the venue with a late night licience over the weekend. It is a small venue so don't go there with the expections of it being a Club venue, there are two seating areas, a bar area and the dance floor. It is recognised as Bristol's LGBTQIA+ community venue, so expect to find exactly that represented inside of the venue, it's not a Gay only venue.

INTRUSIVE

If you are the narcissistic type who craves attention and simply must be photographed for all to see, with or without your consent, to then be posted upon face book purely for commercial reasons, then this is the place for you. However, if you like a little anonymity or perhaps to go unnoticed, (we aren't all so insecure that we need to be seen to be having a good time) then I would advise you steer well clear of this place. The photographer is constantly bothering you to be photographed and even if you do politely decline, he will show absolutely no discretion or hesitation in taking your picture anyway. Perhaps not directly, but worse still you will appear on the Queen Shilling face book page in the most unflattering way possible. Being primarily a gay venue there are also other areas of discretion to be considered. Now don't get me wrong, if I were appearing on stage, bellowing my lungs out at karaoke or perhaps I decide to attend as a lady gaga wannabe, or even try my hand at a few Travolta moves on the dance floor, then that's fine, snap away. If you think that a request to remove said images will be met with compliance, think again. So don't say that you weren't warned.
